Baby Alexander

5lbs 8oz 18 inches long. Born at 12:18 pm

Unfortunately you can see that he' s got clubbed feet. Not a big surprise as this was something that they thought would happen.   That and he would be on the small side. Out of all the stuff they told me this is stuff I can live with.  Believe me the first few weeks after I was leaking fluid was not good ones.  I don't think they honestly believed he would survive and if he did it would be in the NICU.  I tell the story and most people think it sealed up.  Not really. I know I was still leaking fluid around Christmas although by that time the fluid was normal.
So little one... you maybe small and your feet need some work but you will grow and no doubt the feet are a temporary problem. Welcome to the world!

The Big Day

Excited and nervous all in one. I know I don't look like it. The nervousness was coming out
i arrived at Buffalo Mercy at 7:30 am. The c-section was scheduled for 9:30 am with lots of pomp and circumstance.  You were not going to be in in the normal OR for c-section but in the OR area with a collaboration of radiology, urology  and a few other doctors.  The first stop was to put stents in my ureters.   Let me tell you this should have not been a "I'll give you a shot or 2 of Lidocaine and let me stick a scope up there to place them....."   While I'm awake the whole time..... THEN they put in the epidural but some how they managed to only put it in one side and could feel the other.   They redid it again but from what I could hear them talking after its not recommended that someone sits up after they get one.. The reason why this came up is it almost completely knocked me out. After they did it I became very drowsy and had difficulty breathing.  I know they as me to squeeze there hand a few times along there journey putting in the catheters into my groin.  I don't know if he was suppose to be born in the cath.  lab but as soon as they were done with that the c-section was performed. Grandma was suppose to come and see but couldn't with everybody in there and me barely conscious. Feet First- so he was breech when he came out. Even though the sonogram showed him head down the day before. And the placenta accreta??? Wasn't there..... I heard the radiologist go " That MRI has alot of Explaining to do"  But could tell that they were relived it wasn't anything. I got to see him for a brief moment a minute at most before they took him  upstairs and finished with me.  Luckily it didn't go any higher and it started to slowly go to were it was suppose to be,

Final Day, Final Sonogram

Well little guy its almost show time. Final visit to the OB/GYN for the last scan.  You wiggled through most of and then curled up in a ball so no good pics of you today, just fingers and toes. Tomorrow we will get to meet you.  Your estimated weight is 5lbs 11 oz....we will see how accurate our sonogram tech was.  They have gotten to know us very well at the doctors office.

The other doctor came in and at least left me with this: The best thing that happened was that my water broke early and that the irony of the situation is that they caught the problem with me and are prepared for the worse.

You are a little fighter:

Chances of something going wrong with amniocentesis : under 1%

Chances of  having pPROM  (pre term premature rupture of the membrane) at 15 weeks  and fetus surviving :  1%

Chances of having pPROM and making it to full term: under 1%
Here you are considered full term........38 weeks tomorrow.

And so.......37 weeks

Looks like this little guy will be making his debut sooner than expected.  So I went for the Fetal MRI and they did find that I indeed have placenta accreta.

What is Placenta Accreta?
The placenta normally attaches to the uterine wall, however there is a condition that occurs where the placenta attaches itself too deeply into the wall of the uterus.
This condition is known as placenta accreta, placenta increta, or placenta percreta depending on the severity and deepness of the placenta attachment. Approximately1 in 2,500 pregnancies experience placenta accreta, increta or percreta.
So they really don't know if it is increta or percreta and they are how deep it is in the uterus.
And risk of having  this is:
The primary concern for the mother is hemorrhaging during manual attempts to detach the placenta. Severe hemorrhaging can be life threatening.
Other concerns involve damage to the uterus or other organs (percreta) during removal of the placenta. Hysterectomy is a common therapeutic intervention,
So after 4-5 months worrying about the baby and him being premature....it ends up with me being the problem. Nice curve ball there at the end.
Anyway... so that  they are prepared and not have to do an emergency c-section and dealing with this they moved the date till January 28th.

37 Week Sonogram

He's doing well....... Back to being head down again.  This little guy likes to move to were he's most comfortable I guess.  Will see what he decides to do in the following weeks. Don't have results on the MRI yet.

As of today, if things look good on the MRI and he doesn't choose to come sooner, he will be here in 2 weeks. Yeah. This week I have felt like an  human experiment

36 weeks

Technically no sonogram this week as they scheduled me on Thursday (today) which means I'm now at 37 weeks.  I'm now past any danger of the baby needing any intervention due to being premature. However since nothing has gone smoothly and continues not to I had to have yet another test. This one was a Fetal MRI at Children's Hospital. I was suppose to have it about a month ago but  didn't due to having that stomach virus  that dehydrated me.  Now they are looking for placenta accreta.  This is were the placenta grows into the uterus so when after the baby is born and they try to get the placenta out means that I could hemorrhage. Yeah me.......(note the sarcasm). Apparently this is rare and only if you have had multiple c-sections.  I looked it up and after 2 there's an 11% chance......it goes up a lot more after 3. So....now I'm  waiting on the results.

Anyway.....lying on your back pregnant for about an hour was awful for many reasons. One of which is I should not have eaten before doing so.
